The Montreal Canadiens are based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and are in the NHL's Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference. The club was founded in 1909, and has only been known by one name. They are the oldest currently operating hockey team and one of the oldest sports franchises in North America. The Canadiens are one of the "Original Six" teams in the NHL. They have won the Stanley Cup 24 times, which is the most ever. The Canadiens won the Stanly Cup in 1992-1993. No Canadian team has won the Cup since. 

Being one of the "Original Six" created some bitter rivalries, as each team played each other many times during the season. The Canadiens were and still are rivals with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Along with the Canadiens' 24 Stanley Cup wins, they have also won 22 Division Championships and eight Conference Championships.

Last year the Canadiens finished in 6th place in the conference. The outlook for the 2011-2012 team is slightly better as long as the team stays healthy; something they struggled with last year. The East is deep this year and the Canadiens know they are going to have their hands full trying to make the playoffs.
