In 2014, college football fans will get their wish as the BCS Committee has voted to have a four team playoff to decide a National Champion. The semi-final games will take place on New Years Eve and New Years Day. These playoff contests will be Bowl Games. The winners will play each other a week later, most likely on Monday night. According to reports, this will be known as "Championship Monday". Criteria for selecting the four teams will include: win-loss record, strength of schedule, head-to-head competition and whether or not teams are conference champions. This format will not take place for another year.

For one more season, the top two highest ranked teams in the BCS Standings will play for the title. The teams are selected from the NCAA Division I Subdivision, which includes major DI programs within the United States. In 2003, the No. 3 ranked team in the AP Poll, Oklahoma, was selected over the No. 1 ranked team, USC, to play LSU in the Nokia Sugar Bowl. The result after LSU won was the first ever split National Title between LSU and USC.

January 7, 2013 @ Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida

The 2013 BCS National Championship features undefeated No. 1 Notre Dame against defending National Champion No. 2 Alabama.

Notre Dame - 12-0 (Independent) rounded out a perfect season with a 22-13 victory at USC. Head Coach Brian Kelly's squad has had some close calls this year winning two overtime games including a three OT thriller against Pittsburgh. The Irish won 5 games by a touchdown or less. Walter Camp finalist Manti Te'o will lead his team into the BCS title game.

Alabama - 12-1 (7-1) beat Georgia for the SEC Championship, 32-28. The Tides lone loss of 2012 came at the hands of leading Heisman Trophy candidate Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M, 29-24. Only one other game on Bama's schedule was close, a 21-17 win at LSU. Coach Nick Saban's Crimson Tide is over a touchdown favorite in Vegas. Alabama has two 1000 yard rushers in Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon that look to help the Tide roll to a second straight National Championship.

January 9, 2012 @ Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA

Over 78,000 people showed up in New Orleans for the 2012 BCS National Championship game to watch Alabama throttle LSU in a one sided contest. The previously unbeaten Tigers were actually a 1.5 point underdog to the Tide. No. 2 Bama shut out No. 1 LSU, 21-0. This was the first shutout since the BCS was formed. The number one draft pick of the Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson scored the games only touchdown on a 34 yard run in the 4th quarter. Jeremy Shelley kicked 5 field goals for Alabama and missed his only extra point attempt.

Last years game was not without controversy either. The two teams playing for the Championship hailed from the same conference for the first time in history. Many college football fans were upset because the two teams were from the SEC. The result prompted the action taken by the BCS Committee for the change in 2014. Each team received $21.2 million for participating in the contest.
