For over forty seasons the Fiesta Bowl has been a game that has thrilled college football fans throughout the country. In 1971, the first Fiesta Bowl game was played in Sun Devil Stadium. Just over 51,000 Fiesta Bowl tickets were sold that year. Each school received over $168,000 to play in the game. In the highest scoring major bowl game to date, Arizona State beat Florida State 45-38 for the Fiesta Bowl title. 

The Fiesta Bowl trophy for the current generation of players was designed in 2002 for the BCS National Championship game in 2003. The diamond studded award given to the winner of the Fiesta Bowl stands 46" tall but weights around 200 lbs. That is just slightly under the weight of many NCAA college football linebackers.

The Big 12 Champion plays the #1 BCS At-Large selection in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and this years teams will be Kansas State and the Oregon Ducks.  

Kansas State - 11-1 (8-1) beat Texas 42-24 to lock up the Big 12 Championship and punch a ticket to the Fiesta Bowl. K-State rattled off ten wins in a row to start the 2012 season before losing on the road to the Baylor Bears. The Wildcats had National Championship hopes this season, but did manage to win their first Big 12 Championship since 2003. 

Oregon - 12-1 (8-1) beat Oregon State 48-24 in their final regular season game on November 24th. The Ducks won 11 games in-a-row to start 2012 and were on course to a possible title game before being tripped up by Stanford in their 12th game of the campaign, 14-17 in overtime. Senior running back Kenjon Barner will lead Oregon into the Fiesta Bowl and is a finalist for the 2012 Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year award.

Last years game on January 2, 2012 was another thriller. Stanford and Oklahoma State went to overtime with the Cowboys pulling out a 41-38 victory. The game was tied 4 times. Andrew Luck and Branden Weeden combined for almost 750 yards and 5 touchdowns during the contest. It was Oklahoma States first trip to BCS bowl game. Both teams received a payout of $17 million dollars for playing in the game.
