Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a musical with a book written by Australian film director/writer Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott, which uses popular pop songs as the score. The musical is a taken from Elliott's 1994 motion picture The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

The musical originally opened in Australia in 2006 and has since gone on to play in New Zealand, the West End and Toronto. Its most recent production on Broadway debuted in 2011.

The drag queen Mitzi Mitosis, in his "real" life named Anthony "Tick" Belrose, has a job in the far away town of Alice Springs, Australia. He convinces his friends, who are also performers, to join him. The journey to Alice Springs in a large tour bus, called "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", begins. Tick is joined by a transsexual woman named Bernadette Bassenger and the flashy drag queen Felicia Jollygoodfellow played by Adam Whitely.

The original Broadway cast includes Will Swenson as Tick, Tony Sheldon, again, repplaying the role of Bernadatte, and Nick Adams as Adam. The musical choreography is by Ross Coleman, set design by Brian Thomson, lighting design by Nick Schlieper and costume designs by Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner. Producers include Bette Midler, who joined the production team after seeing the London production; Liz Koops and Garry McQuinn for Back Row Productions; Michael Hamlyn for Specific Films; Allan Scott Productions; David Mirvish; Roy Furman; Terry Allen Kramer; James L. Nederlander; and Terri and Timothy Childs. Whether you spell it Priscilla, Prescilla or Pricilla Queen of the Desert this is a show not to miss!

The Broadway cast album was recently recorded in late January 2011 on Rhino Records. The expected release date is March 15, 2011.
