The St. Louis Blues are based in St. Louis, Missouri and are in the NHL's Central Division of the Western Conference. The team name comes from  the famous W. C. Handy song "St. Louis Blues". The team was founded in 1967 as one of the expansion teams when hockey grew from six teams to twelve. The St. Louis Blues have played longer without making it into the league finals.

The Blues do have one President's Trophy and seven Divisional Championships. The pet food company Ralston Purina bought the Blues in 1977 and owned the team for six years. Ralston Purina lost almost two million dollars a year that they owned the team.
