The Phoenix Coyotes are based in Glendale, Arizona and are in the NHL's Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The team was founded in 1972, playing first as the Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association from 1972-1979, then in the NHL from 1979-1996. The Jets were one of four teams that joined the NHL when the WHL folded in 1979. The Jets eventually relocated to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Coyotes.

The Coyotes do not have any trophies or championships to show as of yet, but have been very popular in Phoenix because of the migration of east coasters to the state. The team earned six consecutive .500 or better seasons, and made the playoffs every year but one.

In March 2010, the Coyotes clinched their first playoff spot since the 2001-2002 season. The team reached the 100 point mark for the first ever as an NHL team. The Coyotes finished the season with 107 points, which is the highest point total in the franchise's history. They tied the highest finish as an NHL team. It's going to be a really action packed season as the Coyotes try and go farther than they have ever gone.
