The Raiders are members of the Western Division of the American Football conference in the National Football League. Originally one of the charter members of the AFL, the team won one championship and three division titles. The Raiders joined the NFL as part of the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 and since have won twelve division titles and three Super Bowls.

During their first three seasons the Raiders struggled, but when Al Davis was brought in as Head Coach and General Manager only had seven losing seasons from 1962 – 2002 when they lost the Super Bowl.

During the 2008 season, the Raiders made a comeback and ended up third in the AFC west. Hoping to capitalize on the success of the 2008 season, Head Coach tom Cable is planning on taking the NFL by storm in 2009.
