The Chicago Bulls inaugural season was in 1966 with the legendary player Johnny "Red" Kerr as their coach, they made the playoffs that year and lost in the first round to the St. Louis Hawks.

The organization had some up and down years over the next couple of decades, with the 1983-1984 season being one of the Bulls worst. The 1984 draft changed their fortunes forever. Because of that poor previous season they had the #3 pick, and Michael Jordan fell into their laps.

Jordan would forever change the Bulls, the city of Chicago, and the entire NBA. The Bulls made the playoffs in Jordan's Rookie of the Year campaign and the next two, but could not get out of the first round.

The Bulls then had another memorable draft in 1987 when they snagged Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant.  The final championship piece of the puzzle was added in 1989 when Chicago hired Phil Jackson.

Chicago would finally beat the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference finals setting up the first Bulls title.  Chicago then played against Magic Johnson and the LA Lakers in the finals and after dropping the first game, won four straight.

The Bulls then won titles in the next two season before Jordan retired at the age of 30 to play baseball.  Michael's first full season back in the NBA was in '95-'96 and the Bulls would win the title that year and go on to another 3 - peat.  The team was decimated after the '97-'98 season and returned to the bottom of the league.

The rebuilding process has begun with a core of good young players. In 2010, the starting five of Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, Taj Gibson, Joakim Noah, and Kirk Hinrich are all in their 20's.  Tyrus Thomas is also a young athletic spark off of the bench.  John Salmons and Brad Miller are veterans that add stability to this budding young team. Although he does not have the transcendent skills or charisma that Jordan had, Rose could be that star the Chicago franchise revolves around for the next decade.  Making the playoffs, but stalling early, these young Bulls could be headed in the same direction as Michael's.
