You know Neil Diamond for his classics like "Sweet Caroline," "America" and "I am...I said." The singer/songwriter's career started in the early 1960s and he's been running strong ever since. And here's a reason to celebrate: 2012 will mark his 50th anniversary as a recording artist, and there's never been a better time to witness the legend in concert.
What has this industry-defining musician accomplished in his five decades of musical songwriting, recording and performance? Quite a lot! It doesn't matter if you were a fan in the 60's or the 00's, or every year in between, Neil Diamond's lyrics and melodies have likely been part of your life's soundtrack. Whether you first heard his songs on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD or mp3, you'll love hearing the songs you know and love, live in concert.
Did you know that Neil Diamond gave up his studies as a medical student to take a job in the early 1960's writing songs for a music publishing company for $50 a week? That was just the beginning, followed by record deals and his first hit single, "Sunday and Me" in 1965. By the 1970's he was recording #1 hit singles and selling out concert venues. The success continued for Diamond in the 60's and 70's as other well-known artists like Barbara Streisand and The Monkees covered his songs to great success.
But his career didn't cool down as he progressed into the 80's and 90's. Although recovering from the surgical removal of a spinal tumor in 1979 and continuing to battle chronic pain because of it, Diamond managed to become even more successful than ever as a musical icon and performing artist. It wasn't until 2008, after forty-six years in the music business, that Diamond had his first chart-topping album, Home Before Dark that held the #1 spot for recorded albums in both the US and the UK.
After a career of sold-out venues, chart-topping songs and celebrity appearances, now is your chance to celebrate with Neil Diamond live as he commemorates 50 years as a celebrated recording artist!
